Hawai'i P-3 Initiative has five community partnerships as demonstration projects to develop models of successful, seamless experiences for vulnerable children in early childhood education (P) and elementary schools (K-3) to improve access and provide quality early education experiences, particularly around literacy.

Issues, needs and promising practices identified through these demo site projects will be disseminated to inform system-building, led by the Early Learning Advisory Board, Hawai'i State Department of Education, and the University of Hawai'i.

The demo site projects consist of 11 early childhood programs and 49 elementary schools at five sites:

  • On O'ahu: Farrington Complex, Windward Complex, Nanakuli-Waianae Complex
  • On Hawai'i: Honoka'a Complex, Ka'u-Kea'au-Pahoa Complex

All of the demonstration sites have seven areas of focus:

  • Leadership in Literacy
  • Standards, Curriculum and Assessment
  • Instruction
  • Teacher Professional Development
  • Comprehensive Early Learning Services
  • Family and School Partnerships
  • Data
