Windward P-3

The vision of the of the Windward District P-3 Partnership, which is a project of Kamalapua o Ko‘olau (KOK), is to develop a P-3 model that creates a continuum of seamless early learning experiences for young children from early childhood programs through elementary school. Windward P-3 uses its website and social media, such as Facebook, to communicate important information to participating families. The Windward demonstration site is the largest P-3 grantee.

  • Scholarships and reimbursements for tuition and textbooks to help early childhood educators to obtain degrees or certificates in their field
  • PDE3 courses for Early Childhood Education practitioners

Community Involvement and Family Engagement

  • Healani He‘e Project partnership with Longs, Koʻolau Pets, and Kaneohe Library provides kindergarten readiness activities for children and families while they shop
  • Annual Parent Child Fair partnership with Windward Mall
  • Windward Screening Project for Keiki Health (hearing and vision) partnership with HCAP Head Start Program, University of Hawai‘i School of Nursing, The Lions Club, and Kailua Easter Seals

Kindergarten Preparation Awareness and Assistance

  • Distribute and display information to families at schools and in the community (i.e. “Register for Kindergarten” banners and decals)
  • Partnership with HIDOE to put Bridging the Gap II (a kindergarten readiness form that preschool teachers fill out) into every kindergarten registration packet.
  • Parent workshops offered throughout the year
